Social Paws recommendations – the top ten dog friendly pubs in Cheltenham

Want to go for a spot of lunch or maybe a drink with some friends, but don’t want to leave your dog at home? Here’s a selection of Social Paws’ top ten dog friendly pubs in Cheltenham – all tried and tested.

1. Harry Cooks

Tristan with Bramble in Harry Cooks, Cheltenham

23 Montpellier Walk,
GL50 1SD

A superb range of drinks and comfortable surroundings. I took Bramble and Juniper the bearded collies there and was pleased to see them get a warm welcome and even their own dog treats which may be similar to the ones on the farmer’s dog review!

2. The Exmouth Arms

(Sister pub to The Royal)

The exmouth arms
167 bath road,

A lovely outside area which hosts many small music festivals alongside town community events. An ideal place to take your dog – I found there was ample space outside, lots of seating inside and a large section of drinks and food.

3. The Swan

The Swan,
35-37 High Street
GL50 1DX

With a nice courtyard to sit in, dog treats and dog bowls provided the staff went out of their way to make Ferdie feel welcome and happy. Great range of drinks and home cooked food. I would personally recommend the Swan which is centrally located on the upper high street. There is a car park near by and ample space inside out to socialise with friends, family and of course your dog too!

4. The Green Dragon

Nr Cowley,
GL53 9NW

Good food, fine wine, real ales and comfortable cottage-style accommodation. We visited here recently with friends and had a warm welcome and an exceptional Sunday roast. Booking in advance recommended.

5. The Royal

The friendly staff at the Royal, Charlton Kings

The Royal
54 Horsefair Street
Charlton Kings
Cheltenham, Glos
GL53 8JH

Outstanding meat dishes sourced from local butchers Pete Jeffrey’s and a range of scrumptious vegetarian dishes. Nice garden for the dogs to play in or relax in the sun and nice decor inside. Homely, friendly and I’ve yet to have a bad experience there!

6. The Air Balloon

Crickley Hill,

Ample parking, a large selection of food and drink plus a nice garden area. Clearly advertised on the outside as a dog friendly pub with a good reputation.

7. The Old Restoration

Old Restoration
55-57 High Street
GL50 1DX

Friendly staff and lots of seating available. Great selection of drink and food all competitively priced.

8. The Gloucester Old Spot

The Gloucester Old Spot

With a great variety of Real Ales, cider and a range of soft drinks and friendly welcome the Old Spot is a great place to meet with friends and family.

9. The Beehive

1-3 Montpellier Villas
GL50 2XE

A wide range of locally sourced ales, friendly staff and a large selection of home cooked foods. Everytime we’ve been there the staff have been attentive to our needs.

10. The Plough

Friendly local village pub, offering a large selection of beverages and locally produced food. Great location and Hercules got a warm welcome by all the customers, it was almost like he was a regular there!
